Vase Competition Frampton Cotterell 50 Broad Plain 7
A HALF century of points ensured that Frampton Cotterell booked their place in the Vase final.
Frampton took an early advantage after Matt Lawrence made a break down the wing following good interplay from Paul Rocco and Chris Bray.
Lawrence then ran out of gas and passed to flanker Keith Weaver, who raced over the line, but not before becoming confused and pirouetting.
Weaver then crossed for his second try with a solo effort, running down the wing and then bundling his way over the full-back to score in the corner.
Frampton lost their other flanker John Bennett through concussion after he put in one of his trademark tackles on his opposite number.
The Frampton backs decided it was time to show their pedigree and it was not long before centre Gareth Williams darted over after dummying his opposite number.
Lawrence's conversion kept up his 100 percent record for the day.
Mike Ashwin soon got in on the try-scoring act after dashing over from 15 yards and then full-back Simon Belston added another.
Straight from the kick-off, John Stewart, Nathan Cole, Dean van der Morsener and Lawrence combined to give Tony Williams a run to the corner.
The home side led 40-0 at the break.
Broad Plain gave a better account of themselves after the break and pressured the Frampton line.
However, Ashwin intercepted a pass five metres from his own line and ran the length of the pitch to score.
Plain did eventually batter their way through for a try but the game finished with Frampton in charge.
Steve Handy broke away on the wing and set up veteran substitute Barry Whitehead to complete the half century.
