MANGOTSFIELD manager Martyn Grimshaw has resigned his position with the club.
After a great start to the season United's fortunes have slumped of late but they are still lying in a very comfortable ninth place in this their first season in the Southern Premier League.
Grimshaw, 43, cites the reason for his resignation as family commitments, saying: "I have had 27 years in football as a player, assistant manager and manager and I feel I need a break.
"My boy is now 13 and apart from his football he has interests in golf and fishing.
"It was all brought home to me a couple of weeks ago when Alex broke his nose in a game. I missed Mangotsfield's game to see him on the Saturday and found that I didn't really miss the football and realised there were other things in life.
"I think I have made the right decision and though I don't rule out a return to football I don't have anything in mind at the moment."
Mike Hamilton, a director of Mangotsfield told the Gazette: "I understand Martyn wants to devote more time to his family.
"He has been manager for three years now and we progressed to the Premier Division of the Southern League this season. We cannot finish lower than tenth place which anybody would have taken at the start of the season."
Hamilton added: "The club wishes him well and Martyn will always be welcome at Mangotsfield."
He also confirmed that the position has been advertised and a number of applications have been received.
Assistant manager Lee Howells is in charge of team affairs at the moment.
