THE TINY Lives Campaign is planning a zip-roaring final event to help volunteers reach their £1.2 million target by the end of May.
With only seven weeks to reach the all-important deadline, the charity which is fundraising to refurbish the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit at Southmead Hospital is calling for people to sign up to a giant Zip Slide event.
The event follows a successful abseil at the Avon Gorge in Bristol which raised £22,000 for the Tiny Lives Campaign.
Thrill seekers will fly down the 300 feet zip wire reaching speeds of more than 40 mph. Participants are asked to try and raise £120 each before they take to the skies.
The Tiny Lives Campaign needs to urgently raise £1.2 million to completely refurbish the NICU at Southmead Hospital, where premature babies from all over the South West are cared for. Parents to often very poorly babies have for years had to suffer cramped and inadequate conditions during the first few weeks of their child's life.
Work has already started on the centre but more money is needed to ensure the project can be completed.
The campaign has already raised £1.1 million and with a further £50,000 pledged, the charity still needs to raise £50,000 which organisers hope this event will help them achieve.
Niki Brooks, fundraising assistant at the TLC, said: "We urgently need more support if we are to reach our target. We're incredibly close to reaching our target now if you're a dare devil, join us in this final push for funds and sign up for this giant zip slide."
