WHEN entering an underground social club in Bristol to watch an album launch by Yate girl band 3D, I must admit, I really did not know what to expect.
A self confessed novice on local bands and groups, I was recommended to turn up to this event at the Folkhouse, Park Street, and promised by a friend that I would enjoy it.
To my delight, I was not to be disappointed.
The group - Kate, Charlie and Sarah Dean - walked on to the stage late, like all good bands should, to huge applause made by more than 200 fans showing their support.
It was support I later found to be completely justified.
Playing a variety of acoustic songs, many from their new album Sister Acoustic, the group dazzled the crowd, who, without fail, rose to their feet at the end of each song.
Comparable to Irish pop group The Corrs, the band played music they call acoustic rock.
Slow and sombre in some songs, while loud and forward in others - but all very impressive.
It was not hard to see why this band has proved so popular. Between each song the girls talked together, and with members of the crowd, without arrogance or too much self-belief - just with their feet on the ground and taking one step at a time.
And they are obviously enjoying every minute of it.
As the night flew by and the drinks took hold, I became washed up in the music and atmosphere to the extent where I thought I was watching a professional pop group. Not too far from reality, surely.
Did I buy the album? Of course I did.
