Flower tribute to Clive

From the archive, first published Friday 10th Feb 2006.

A LONE bunch of flowers lay at the scene of Friday's inferno in tribute to Clive Hayes.

The red carnations were left on the railings of the town's pump, near to where the car had careered out of control on Friday morning by a woman known only as Abby.

A card attached to the bouquet written in capital letters said:"I want you to know that the man who lost his life here on February 3 had goodness in him too. I witnessed the care he gave for an elderly sick man. Abby."

The woman's relation to Hayes is unknown.

A bunch of red tulips were also left in memory of Mr Hayes' dog Angel who also perished in the blaze. A typed note, with a picture of a dog on it, simply said: "This is for Angel. Now you are free to run away. xxx."
