Hellenic League Division One West Tytherington Rocks 4 Winterbourne United 2

TYTHERINGTON ROCKS inflicted a rare defeat upon league leaders Winterbourne United in a spectacular second half display.

All six goals came after the break, following a first half that had plenty of promise but no end product due to fine defending from both teams.

However, the game sprung into life four minutes into the second half when dangerman Scott Cameron put Winterbourne 1-0 up, drawing Rob Dent in the home goal before stroking the ball home.

Tytherington were level on the hour though.

United half cleared a corner but the return ball into the box was headed down by Errol Deans for Jimmy Potts to blast into the net from eight yards.

Rocks turned things around shortly afterwards when Gary Cripps and Potts combined to play in John Peacock and he slotted the ball into the corner from 15 yards.

The home side had their tails up and increased their lead with a third goal.

Jamie Ackland beat two defenders before deceiving Winterbourne goalkeeper Tom Shepherd with a cross that went straight in.

The visitors did not lie down though and Cameron seized on a chance to drill in his second from a tight angle.

With United pushing for a late equaliser, Tytherington had a couple of chances to make the game safe, although they did not manage it until the final minute.

Peacock picked up the ball on the left and cut inside before unleashing a tremendous shot beyond Shepherd for 4-2.

Tytherington assistant boss Barry Granger said: "This was an excellent advertisement for Hellenic League football.

"Now we know we have the ability to put together a run of results to push on for a higher league position."

Winterbourne manager Stuart Jones conceded: "We were very poor in the second half but Rocks played very well. We were beaten by the better side on the day."

Tomorrow Rocks travel to Cirencester United (2.15pm) while Winterbourne have no game.
