Quaker meeting

From the Gazette, first published Friday 29th Jul 2005.

THORNBURY Quakers were interested to read the informative article Town's role in rise of Quakers (Gazette, July 22). However, apart from a comment that the Quaker burial ground at Lower Hazel is still in use, it might be inferred that most Quakers have died out in the area.

Many will already know that Thornbury Quakers are very much alive, (though not kicking, as Quakers are often active peace makers and kicking might be considered un-Quakerly).

But for those who don't know about us, our Quaker Meeting for worship is held at 10.30am at the Chantry every Sunday. We are different from the main stream churches in that we have no dogma or set service, and the hour of worship contains silent listening to that of God within us, interspersed with off-the-cuff ministry from anyone who feels led to speak.

We are not exclusive, so if you want to find out what a Quaker Meeting is really like, you are welcome on any Sunday. There are also six other Quaker Meetings in the Bristol area.
