TECHNICAL whizkid Dean Pook has put his computer skills to good use by designing an eye-cathcihg logo for the town's forthcoming community radio station, Thornbury FM.
His striking computer-generated design, which will now go on station letterheads and merchandise from pens to window stickers, was the clear winner of a logo design competition organised by station bosses who hope to go on air for the first time this November.
After receiving his prize - fittingly a DAB digital radio - from town Mayor Shirley Holloway this week, Dean, a digitial print technician, said: "I tried to come up with something that would really stand out. The design features the initials TFM inside expanding circles representing radio waves, rather like ripples on water.
"Design work like this is a field I would really like to get into so this win is quite encouraging."
Cllr Holloway also presented prizes of personal CD players to three local youngsters whose logo designs won the younger age group catagories - Manorbrook Primary School pupils Amy Smith, 7, and Georgia Orrell, 9, and Castle School pupil Lucy Wilmer, 13.
Thornbury police sector deputy Sgt Simon Ellis, one of the judges, said: "We had around 30 entries and were really impressed by the standard of work.
"But Dean's design was very professional and was a clear winner thanks to its clarity and simplicity. It will serve Thornbury FM very well indeed." The competition prizes were provided by Oldbury power station.
