From the Gazette, first published Friday 29th Jul 2005.
IT WAS with a mounting sense of horror that I read the article in this week's Gazette (July 22) about the senseless vandalism of the beautiful 'Sensory' Garden at Gillingstool in Thornbury.
My young daughter and myself have many times popped into the garden to enjoy the peacefull atmosphere, look in the little pond for frogs or just pick up some inspiration.
I would like to register my support for the volunteers who have assembled such a highly regarded oasis and can only express my disgust at the mindless yobs who conducted this atrocity.
I would like to extend my disgust at the parents of these children. How would they like me to come around to their gardens and rip out plants and push over valuable pots? I think not! I enjoyed my independence as achild but my mum and dad were always interested in what I had been up to with my mates.
Perhaps parents these days need to know a little more about what their kids are doing after school or on the week-end as ultimately their children are their responsibility!
Perhaps the answer is to install some sort of CCTV monitoring of the site.
