Toolstation Western League Les Phillips Cup Almondsbury FC 2 Street 0

ALMONDSBURY FC bundled Street out of the Les Phillips Cup with a good workmanlike performance, writes Gordon Evans.

Things had been pretty even for the first 20 minutes but Almondsbury scored and immediately took control of the game.

Good play between Kris Reubens and Wayne Pearce culminated in the ball being floated towards the far corner of the goal for Danny Cochrane to volley into the net.

Goal number two came ten minutes after the interval. The ball was played to Pearce's feet and from the edge of the box and with his back to goal he turned and sweetly hit the ball into the bottom left of the net.

"This was a very rewarding game," said Almondsbury FC manager Fran Johnson. "We had several senior players out and this was the youngest side I have managed with an average age of 19. Ricky Boulton, only 16, came on for the final 20 minutes and played well.

"It was a good team performance and it is unfortunate we have no game this weekend."

Almondsbury FC will play Clevedon United or Willard in the next round of the Les Phillips Cup.
