PEOPLE in and around Thornbury have been flicking their radio dials this week to tune in to the town's first ever community radio station.
After months of long and hard preparation, Thornbury FM finally took to the air waves last Saturday morning, coinciding with the big Christmas lights switch on in the town.
The radio station, which is staying on air until December 2, is already being hailed a success by listeners.
"The launch of the station was fantastic," said station chairman and town vicar the Rev David Primrose. "So far we have received nothing but positive feedback. "We have had people as far north as the Golden Valley in Cheltenham to as far south as Cribbs Causeway listening and complementing us.
"It is all down to the numerous individuals who are working hard to make this radio station a success. They are all feeling very proud at present." Mr Primrose said the radio station's producers have concentrated on airing local issues, showcasing local talent and providing a platform for local groups. "The aim of this radio station is to provide a local voice to as many communities as possible," he added.
"The fact that more and more community organisations are ringing up every day wanting to put new information on the air can only prove the success of our aim."
Now Mr Primrose is asking for feedback - positive or negative - from listeners of the station.
"The most important thing is for people to give us a try and form their own impressions, from this we look for feedback and comments," he told the Gazette. "As a community radio station we want to be able to respond to what the community wants, we do not want anyone's views to be left out of the show. "Feedback will all help to contribute to the next time we go on air in May, making the next production even better."
Anyone with feedback should email Thornbury FM at studio@thornburyfm.org or call 01454 412002.
