TEENAGE Thornbury rally driver Adam Gould is hoping to be successful in this year's British Rally Championship Stars of the Future competition.
The Stars of the Future initiative aims to encourage new British rallying talent to the point of coming to the attention of World Championship teams.
Eighteen-year-old Gould impressed the experts in Scotland last year by beating off many experienced drivers to win his class on his first ever stage rally. He also achieved an impressive second overall in the British Junior Rallycross Championship.
Gould is sponsored by garage door specialists Hörmann, who became involved when one of its suppliers, Weston-super-Mare's Simon Sparey, announced he would be navigating for Gould throughout the championships.
Sparey, who has travelled the world as a navigator over the past 15 years, believes that Gould's skills behind the wheel are incredibly rare for one so young.
He said: "It usually takes four or five years for a driver to reach Adam's standard. He has great potential and could go far."
The Stars of the Future competition consists of six rallies, each covering around 120 miles. The pair are competing in an MG ZR 1400 and are using the competition to gain experience prior to the national championships next year
