Hellenic League Premier Division Almondsbury Town 3 Kidlington 1
ALMONDSBURY Town needed to arrest their slide into the mire and this 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Kidlington on Saturday was a real tonic.
Luke Quinnell gave the home side a great start with an early goal when he slid in at the far post to put away a cross from the left.
Simon Harris made it 2-0 just before the break when he tucked in the rebound from Quinnell's initial shot.
The Almonds' third goal was their best - a super shot from 25 yards by Noel O'Sullivan zipping into the net.
Kidlington were never really in contention, although they managed a late consolation goal.
"This was a welcome six-pointer," said Almondsbury chairman Bob Jenkins, "which pushed us up three places to fifth from bottom."
Wantage Town 0 Almondsbury Town 2
ALMONDSBURY followed up their Saturday success with another good win and three more points for the pot.
They worked hard collectively and reaped their reward with two good goals.
The first goal came 15 minutes into the game when Marcus Mapstone made a good run on the right and knocked the ball in for Noel O'Sullivan to finish with a cracking drive.
The second was scored on 30 minutes when Mapstone's shot was deflected and spun out to Marc Booker.
Booker's first touch was clinical and he drilled the ball into the net from 12 yards.
Though Sullivan and Booker had a couple of further chances half-time was reached without further score.
Wantage pressed after the break but found the Almondsbury defence secure with skipper Grant Monnell enjoying probably his best game of the season as his side maintained their advantage to the final whistle.
Another three points are in the offing this Saturday when Almondsbury travel to Shrivenham hoping to make it three on a trot.
