SIR - I wish to utter my disbelief that Thornbury Hospital could possibly be closed. May I remind you that when Almondsbury Hospital was closed by Southmead Hospital, the residents of Almondsbury and nearby villages were told that there would always be beds in Thornbury Hospital for respite care and very ill elderly patients. An uninspiring 0-0 draw with Colchester United seems like an age away after Bristol City produced two excellent performances at Ashton Gate this week to move up to 7th position in League One. Firstly came a 4-1 battering of England's "football's franchise club" Milton Keynes Dons, formerly knows as Wimbledon. Then, more breath-taking and more surprisingly was Tuesday night's superb win over second-placed Tranmere Rovers.
